All you need to know about CAT 2017

CAT 2017 application process has been started on July 9. CAT (Common Admission Test) is conducted by Indian Institutes of Management every year. This year it will be conducted by IIM-Lucknow. The score of cat is just not considered in IIMs. But also in other reputed B-Schools of India. More than two lakh students appear in the exam each year and hence it is the biggest entrance exam in India for MBA. You will find all the details about the exam in this article.

Eligibility Criteria for CAT 2017

The eligibility criteria for CAT 2017 is as follows:-

  • Candidates should possess a bachelor’s degree from a recognized university.
  • The minimum percentage required is 5.0 CGPA or 50% for general candidates and 4.0 CGPA or 40% for reserved categories.
  • The candidates who are in their final year of graduation are also applicable with the condition that they have to submit all the valid certificates under the given schedule provided by the IIMs.

SC Candidates            15%

CAT 2017 Application Form

Candidates have to fill the CAT 2017 Application form online on the official website of CAT 2017. The online application form can be filled from 9 August onwards. Once all the registration process is finished, the login credentials will be sent by IIM through mail and sms. After the login credentials have been received the andidate has to login and fill the following details:-

  • Academic Details
  • Work Experience
  • Selecting IIMs to apply for
  • Selecting Test Centers and Interview Cities

The candidate should thoroughly check the details entered, as it is hard to change the details afterwards.

The candidates also have to upload a passport size photo and signature in order to complete the registration process.

Application Fee for CAT 2017

Application fee for CAT 2017 is as follows:-

  • General candidates have to pay a fee of Rs. 1800
  • Other reserved categories have to pay Rs. 900
  • The payment can be made though Credit/Debit Card or net-banking.

  Exam Pattern of CAT 2017 

The exam duration is 3 hours with 100 questions. There are MCQ and Non—MCQ questions present. The no. of questions in Logical reasoning and Data interpretation is 32 while the weightage of Reading comprehension and Verbal reasoning is 34. Each section has a time limit of 1 hour.

Marking Scheme

There are 3 marks for the right answer. Negative marking of 1 mark for the wrong answer and there is no negative marking in Non-MCQs. Or left question.

 Admit Card for CAT 2017

The admit card for cat 2017 can be download from 18 October 2017, it has following details on it:-

  • Exam Centre address and name
  • Name of the candidate
  • Instructions and exam date

Without the admit card the students would not be allowed to give the exam and the student must also take a photo identity with him.

CAT 2017 Result

The CAT result will be available on the official website in the second week of January. The candidate has to login with his credentials and download the scorecard. The score card will carry the section-wise marks and the overall percentile.

Selection procedure of CAT 2017

The candidate who has cleared the cut-off will go through the selection procedure of CAT 2017. The selection procedure is not specific but varies from institute to institute. WAT (Writing ability test) is conducted followed by group discussion and Personal interview. The old IIMs have their own selection process while most of the B-schools and new IIMs conduct the same. The past academic record and work experience is also considered.
